Joana Winningham

Joana Winningham has a passion for helping those with language barriers gain access to equitable and upward mobility in the workforce. Being multilingual and the daughter of first generation immigrants from Portugal, she knows firsthand how language barriers have a profound impact on being able to access services. As the New Americans Initiative Coordinator for the Maryland Department of Labor’s Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning, Joana co-leads Maryland’s Skilled Immigrant Task Force, which collaborates across organizations to advance workforce system accessibility and career opportunities for the internationally trained professionals.
